Licensing Executives Society IP & Licensing Basics Course at UH Sept. 9

On September 9, at the University of Houston Law Center, the Licensing Executives Society USA/Canada, part of (the global non-profit) LES International, will again present its highly-rated, in-person, CLE program, "IP & Licensing Basics."  The program is again co-sponsored by the UH Law Center's Intellectual Property and Information Law Institute.  (State Bar of Texas CLE credit of 6.5 hours is anticipated.)

This course will give you the tools you need to understand and participate effectively in the process of protecting IP and facilitating its commercialization, whether you are:

• a junior lawyer

• an aspiring patent agent

• an entrepreneur in the making

• a principal investigator

• a student at any level

• a beginning technology-transfer professional

Presented in one, highly-interactive day, the course consists of 4 modules:

• IP Basics - patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets

• IP Commercialization Basics

• Licensing Fees & Royalty Rates

• Managing Risk - NDAs; third-party threats; administering a licensing program

• a license-negotiation game

The course always gets high marks from attenders, in no small part because of its interactive nature.

The course is especially well-suited for non-specialists who would like to get a basic overview of intellectual property law and how IP licensing works.
